How to use the RBD Procedural in Houdini 20.5
I'M BACK!
Was struggling to set this up, so figured I would record a video about how to do it now that i've figured it out.
The RBD procedural is a way to render heavy rigid body dynamics in Solaris/Karma.

Noticed I never uploaded my demo sequence on UA-cam! So thought i'd do that. SideFX asked me to create a sequence that would show off a lot of the new features Karma XPU has to offer such as nested dieletrics, cryptomattes, geolights, and a lot more! Check out my presentation about it on the Houdini 20 hive: ua-cam.com/video/Mh3iRX5TwfU/v-deo.htmlsi=P4ZCU1LSBw-p1zf2

    Thanks for the tutorial! Am i right, that if you use "file cache" points location in houdinirbdprocedural, you than get absolut path in usd.a file, instad of using "primitive location" to points, thet can be writen relativly? It make sense for farm rendering for instance.

      the procedural picks up on the v and w attributes when deforming it so that's what it used, works out of the box if you enable it.

    This is by far the most confusing node name I've seen in Houdini. Why Houdini in Houdini node name? and also procedural has too broad meaning. The only thing related is probably RBD then RBD what..? haha

    • @TimvanHelsdingen
      @TimvanHelsdingen 2 дні тому

      @@TaekOhFX They essentially call everything that can be rendered directly by HUSK(the command line USD render thingy) a procedural and i don’t think they even require Houdini/engine licence to run. They have multiple of them, there’s also the hair procedural and the ocean procedural.

      @@TimvanHelsdingen They have two types of procedurals right now. Basic - usually called Houdini something, that does not require any Houdini license run (not even a hython/hengine) and the User procedurals/All - user can create their own procedural (we have created RBD Procedural in H20 previous to this) but it requires atleast Houdini Engine license to run before starting the render to process the input before rendering the image.

    I can only get the attribtransfer to apply where the meshes intersect, there would be specks of black color in the middle of where I placed the eyes. So instead I turned the eye copies into a VDB and ran an VDB Intersect to subtract the eyes from the base.

    If you do buy a second kit of the same part number of ram and if they dont work together right away if you loosen your memory timings and down clock your ram you should be able to get them to work together. Viewport rendering in cycles absolutely uses cuda. Also if you do video editing Intel has what they call quicksync and that helps decode and encode video faster, but I would not buy an Intel CPU right now due to a massive amount of failure of 13th and 14th gen intel cpu's. Nvidia has killed nvlink completely now. Also the rtx 2000 ADA is the most affordable nvidia gpu with 16gb of vram currrently. Also you said 3060TI has 12gb, you have that backwards it's the regular 3060 that has 12gb. There's a 4060TI that has 12gb now though. 3 drives System drive, Project drive , and cache drive. Puget Systems only ever uses Air Cooling for their CPU coolers, and they are an extremely reputable high end workstation system integrator.
